According to the Roll of Honour published by the Society of Friends of the Airborne Museum (Jan Hey 1999 and 2011) James Burke died of wounds in the Ter Horst family home, Benedendorpsweg at Oosterbeek. He was given a field burial in the garden of Ter Horst house. When his remains were reinterred in the Arhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery they could not be identified. In 1987 a new headstone with the inscription 'Believed to be' was placed over the grave, because the evidence provided did not absolutely rule out the possibility of another casualty.
