John Albert Bird was a son of John Albert Oxley Bird and Ethel Maud Bird. He was married to Lily Bird of Roos, Yorkshire.
Bird was a member of B-Company of 156th Battalion. After he died he was buried some 100 metres south of Wolfheze Station. He was given a field grave in a garden along the Wolfhezerweg. According to Hennie Berghege, who lived along the Wolfhezerweg, John Bird died in the early morning of 20 september 1944, while standing at the entrance of a cellar where civilians were hiding.
