- Robert William Bidewell was a son of Harry and Eva Bidewell of
Watford, Hertfordshire. He was married to J.W. Bidewell of Watford.
- According to the Roll of Honour published by the Society of Friends
of the Airborne Museum (Jan Hey 1999 and 2011) Bidewell served a Platoon
Sergeant with 2nd Platoon, A Company. In the early morning of 25
september 1944 he and others crossed the river Rhine. They were moving
through a wood when they saw two Germans, who apparantely wanted to
surrender. Suddenly the Germans separated and a machinegun opened up on
the men. Bidewell and private Stevenson were killed.
- Bidewell was given a field burial near Westerbouwing.
