William Baker was the pilot of Stirling EF-298. The plane took off from Harwell Airfield at 14.34Hrs and flew to Arnhem on a resupply mission. About 1605hrs, during the dropping sequence, the aircraft was hit by Flak and it turned away from the Dropzone but crashed very shortly afterward in woods east of Panoramahoeve, Ede. The crew of six men and two Army Air Corps despatchers didn't survive the crash. It is said that only three bodies were actually found at the crashsite.
